COMMUNITY spirits were high as Govan celebrated its fourth annual Gathering last week (September 20th.) with a street party along the Govan Road from the Portal to Water Row. Regeneration was this year's theme celebrating the past, present and future of central Govan. A wide range of creative activities were on offer including storytelling, face painting, live music, a super hero factory, films and street theatre. Paul Watson, 23, from Linthouse said: "This is great. I never thought I'd see the day when I would be going to a gig in Rathlin Street." The event coincided with Doors Open Day which gave folk a free look at the cultural past in the churches and at the Pearce Institute. Community groups and politicians were out in force highlighting the work they are doing now. Margaret Cummings, 75, from Govan said: "I've seen a lot of good times and bad in Govan. Regeneration has been a long time coming, but on a sunny Govan day like today you can't help feel that anything is possible in the future." www.sunnygovancommunitymedia.org/index.html
